If you don't know these 3 things when talking to a nurturerā€”you are in trouble.
May 18, 2023We know them, we love them, and we can spot them from a mile away-
People with a nurturing operating system.
They have loving demeanours, are kind and super compassionate. Working with these nurturing personality types can be a positive experience, and there are three things you need to know about them that will be game changers for you when you want to be a conscious leader.
#1. Nurturers Need to Know That They Matter
A little appreciation goes a long way with these people who have this primary operating system. Many times their self worth depends on external validation. So show them the appreciation they deserve. Nurturing individuals often enjoy helping others and making a positive impact so showing them that you appreciate their efforts, and recognizing the value they bring goes a long way.
How to do this:
- Consider bringing in their favourite drink with a note of appreciation.
- Send an email that acknowledges them
- Let them speak and tell them that their input matters
#2 They Value Clear and Loving Communication
Let's face it only 7% of communication is the words we use and the rest is tone and body language. These thoughtful humans are sensitive to this and can be easily triggered by harsh tones. So, be clear and direct and use a positive tone. Because they can be sensitive to feedback focus on solutions rather than problems.
How to do this:
- When sharing feedback start with an acknowledgement and then co create solutions to problems.
- If you are heated about something, wait until you are in a calm place before communicating
- Be receptive to feedback. It takes courage for them to offer valuable insights and perspectives so be open to suggestions, shows them that you value their input.
#3 They Value Relationships
They love doing things for others and also appreciate when people take the time to build a rapport with them.
How to do this:
- Show that you care about their well-being. Ask questions and listen to their response.
- Be patient when they take longer to make decisions or to take action
- Allow them time to complete tasks and make decisions.
Whether you are a parent, professional or partner, understanding these nurturing operating systems will foster confidence and respect. When the goal is conscious leadership you get to be the one to step up. People don't need to change and how you interact with people speaks volumes about you and not them.
If you have a nurturing operating system be willing to ask for what you want and need. You are not a door mat and people pleasing will rob you of your joy and freedom over time.
